Description: Black Cohosh is a perennial, tall herbaceous plant, belonging to the Ranunculaceae family. The plant produces a stout, blackish rhizome that is hard and knotty. When cut into pieces and dried, it has a faint, disagreeable odor, but a bitter and acrid taste. The chief constituent of Cimicifuga root is the amorphous resinous substance known as Cimicifugin.
