This bar soap is made in Africa by small batch soapmakers. This traditional black soap is made from potash (lye) from the ash of fire pits used to cook soap. Because ash is a key ingredient, it is very possible that your soap will contain charcoal wood pieces and/or small rocks from the pit. Use caution when using this product "directly out of the bag" on your skin.
African Black Soap is said to be one of the healthiest soaps for all skin types, even infants, due to the purity and simplicity of the ingredients used during production.
Its simple three ingredient blend consists of: unrefined shea butter, unrefined palm kernel oil, and real potash (to saponify the oils into soap). These ingredients are hand-gathered from around the local villages and are not ingredients from a farmed plantation.
Black soap is NOT like traditional bar soap. It is not hard, but rather quite pliable. Store bought bar soaps have had their natural glycerin content stripped so it can be sold on the secondary market. Our black soap contains its natural glycerin, which makes it uniquely soft. This means care should be used when storing your soap. It cannot sit in standing water nor be exposed to the air for prolong amounts of time, as it will eventually absorb water. This key benefit makes it an excellent soap, as it will "gather" water from the air and hold it to your skin, thus making you feel soft and nourished and not chemically stripped of your skins natural oils.
We recommend storing your black soap in an air tight container for maximum benefit. If you notice "white spots" that appear on the bar, this is from being exposed to the air, and is in no way a sign of your soap going rancid.
Please note this item is FRAGRANCE FREE but does hold black soaps' traditional scent. We think it smells of woodsmoke, which comes from the high content of unrefined shea butter used to make this bar.
Packaging: This product is hand cut from super sized bricks of soaps. Though we attempt to send a full bar, it can arrive in pieces. Since this product is pliable, simply squeeze the pieces of the soap and with the heat of your hand, or a tiny bit of water it will reform back into a rough ball. Ordering the larger sizes will help ensure larger sized pieces arriving to you.
