Description: Alfalfa is a perennial plant from the Leguminosae (Fabaceae) family. The roots of the Alfalfa plant grow very deep, bringing nutrients up from within the earth. Alfalfa leaf contains protein and vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin K. It also contains calcium, potassium, carotene, iron, zinc and chlorophyll, which is renowned for its cleansing qualities.

Part Used: Dried cut leaf.

Culinary Uses: Alfalfa Leaf makes a tea with a delicate flavor that melds very nicely with mint and lemon. To make a tea, steep 1 teaspoon of dried Alfalfa leaf in 1 cup of boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses: Alfalfa helps eliminate toxins from the body and is considered to nourish the digestive, skeletal, glandular, and urinary systems. It's also used for indigestion and vitamin and mineral deficiency. 

Precautions and Adverse Reactions: Alfalfa is not recommended for use by persons taking blood thinning agents.
