OVERVIEW
Our Beeswax pastilles possess all of the same beneficial properties as our blocks of beeswax. These pastilles, sometimes known as pellets, have a deep golden color and rich, sometimes smoky, aroma. The average dimension of each pastille is 3 mm. Beeswax is produced by the (female) worker honeybees. The wax is secreted from wax glands on the underside of the bee’s abdomen and is molded into six-sided cells which are filled with honey, then capped with more wax. When honey is harvested, the top layer of wax that covers the cells, must be removed from each hexagon-shaped cell. The color and scent of beeswax is determined by the type of pollen taken from the flowers that the bees pollinated. Our beeswax pastilles are sourced globally, and often come from less-developed countries in South America and Africa. In these locations, villagers still rely on less-modern techniques of processing beeswax. These methods often employ open fire pits which are used to melt and process the honeycomb. Because of this, the beeswax pastilles can often take on a smoky note.
