Description: The Catnip plant is an erect and rugged perennial belonging to the Labiateae (Lamiaceae) family and, like its relatives, possesses the same square stems and branches. The flowers are small, white (occasionally pink, blue or lilac) flowers with crimson dots. The plant is strongly scented with a mint-like odor,and the leaves and flowering tops have a pleasant, mint-like aroma and strong, minty, warm, pungent, bitter taste. Catnip is well-loved and intoxicates cats and repels rats and fleas.

Culinary Uses: The principal culinary use of catnip is as a tea, which is a sedative and soporific (sleep-inducing).To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon of dried Catnip Leaves & Flowers, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses: Catnip has long been considered to have soothing and supportive effects. It's been used as a digestive aid, and as a remedy for colds, flatulence, and fever.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions: Catnip should not be used during pregnancy.
