Description:
Elder Flowers are from the European Elder, a tree belonging to the Caprifoliaceae family. It is a shallow-rooted tree with spreading branches, strongly perfumed masses of creamy-white flowers, followed by large drooping bunches of purplish-black berries with blood-red juice and brownish colored seeds. In addition to being a popular herbal tea, elder flowers are often used in potpourri to add texture.

Culinary Uses:
Elder Flowers have long been used for making many homemade drinks and preserves that are great favorites. Rehydrate berries to make the old fashioned Elderberry jam and jellies.
To make a tea, steep 1 teaspoon of dried Elder Flowers in 1 cup of boiling water for 3 - 5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses:
Elder Flowers are considered helpful for flu and colds. A tea of the elder flowers and sassafras has been used for acne.
