Description: Oregon Grape is a fast growing evergreen shrub, belonging to the Berberidaceae family. It is a spineless shrub with a very hard and woody yellow root, brown bark on the surface and yellow beneath with sparingly branched and stout stems, ovate shining dark green leaves, and fruit that is a purple-black, frosted berry with red juice. Oregon Grape contains the alkaloid berberine, known as an anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.

Culinary Uses: To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 teaspoon of Oregon Grape Root, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.

Medicinal Uses: Oregon Grape Root is used in treating infections, enhancing thyroid and liver function, detoxifying and cleansing the lymphatic system and liver, improving circulation, strengthening the immune system, improving digestion, and lowering blood pressure.

Precautions and Adverse Reactions: Oregon grape root should not be used during pregnancy.
