Description: Senna is a low branching herbaceous perennial shrub, belonging to the Leguminosae (Fabaceae) family. It is a small shrub with a smooth and pale green erect stem that has long and spreading branches that bears greyish-green leaflets in four or five pairs. The flowers are small and yellow. The pods are broadly oblong, and contain about six seeds.

Culinary Uses: To make a tea, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1/2 teaspoon of Senna leaf, cover and steep 3-5 minutes.
Medicinal Uses: Senna is a powerful lower bowel cleanser and laxative and is mainly used for constipation. It also helps to temporarily prevent fluid from being absorbed from the large intestine, thus contributing to softer stools.
Precautions and Adverse Reactions: Senna should not be used if you have diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain. Consult your physician if you have frequent diarrhea. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or have a medical condition, consult your physician before using this product. Not for long term use. Excessive use may produce dependence.
