Description: Wood Betony is a strongly scented hardy perennial, belonging to the Labiateae (Lamiaceae) family. It has many pungent leaves rising from the root, which are broad and round at the end and dented at the edges. The stalks are small, square, slender, upright and hairy. It produces several spiked heads of pale magenta flowers spotted with white spots.

Culinary Uses: Wood Betony has a somewhat bitter and salty flavor and have sometimes been used as a spice with meat. To make a tea, steep 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried Wood Betony Herb in 1 cup of boiling water.
Medicinal Uses: Wood Betony is said to help asthma and bronchitis, heartburn, neurasthenia, bladder and kidney problems, coughing, excessive sweating, varicose veins, it is used to expel worms, heal cuts, external ulcers, and old sores. It is also useful for sprains when used as a poultice.
